Nessa's World: May 2016

Did you watch Alice Through The Looking Glass this weekend? I didn't get a chance to go but will be going this week. I am such a fan of Alice in Wonderland. I will go ahead and share how I feel about this palette before I start quoting Alice in my post.๐Ÿ˜‚ When I found out about this palette I knew I had to have it. I purchased the first AIW palette Urban Decay launched about six years ago. I still have it and even though I hardly use it I still love it. One thing that caught my eye from the new palette were the colors. They are definitely more wearable. This palette gives you matte and shimmer options which is a plus for me. I'll swatch each shade down below. Make sure to comment which one is your favorite!

The Eyeshadow Palette

You get twenty new shades created by Urban Decay for this palette. My favorite shades are for sure the ones on the fourth row. They are all neutral and I can wear them on a daily basis. Lily, Duchess, Cake and Chessboard make the cut as well. I have played around with most of the shades. Most have amazing pigment while one or two lack pigment, but I think they are meant to be that way. For example, Dream On doesn't have as much pigment as the others but when you apply it to your lid it's soft and sheer. I was able to blend all shades smoothly and fall out was minimal. Like all Urban Decay shadows they are very pigmented and buttery soft. I have tan skin and as you can see all the colors showed up amazing. I like that they included a brush and the packaging is just beautiful! The gold lettering quotes, a mirror, a 3D butterfly decoration and a tray full of bright, neutral and beautiful shades is a winner in my beauty book.

The colors and design of this palette are so unique that you just want to add it to you collection. Will you be picking this one up? Let me know what you think in the comments! XO Nessa๐Ÿ˜š

Last Wednesday I had a few of my mommy friends over and I hosted a Pampers Easy Ups Party. I always love having other mom's around so we can all share our crazy experiences. One hot topic we find ourselves talking about lately is potty training. I think all mom's potty train differently. Some mom's are persistent. Some take their time. Regardless what you do there is no wrong way to do it. Potty Training is challenging and once this milestone is achieved I hope you take the time to celebrate such a huge achievement. I have plenty of posts sharing my tips and tricks on how I potty trained Evan, but three thing we all agreed on were:
  • Be Patient!
  • Practice!
Our little party was so much fun. The kiddos enjoyed the food, company and their goody bags. By the end of the party we had tissue paper all over the floor. All the mommies read the tips given by Dr. Laura Jana, a pediatrician, award-winning parenting book author and potty training expert. I learned a lot from her tips so I knew my mommy friends would enjoy them as well.

I think throwing this party really helped the kids get excited to start potty training and encouraged the ones that are still leaning. If you are potty training or soon to be, I highly recommend you throw a little get together with you mommy friends and help each other out. Share tips, experiences and enjoy the company. Maybe even drink a little wine while you're at it.๐Ÿ˜‰ What is the best potty training tip you have received from another mom? If you throw a party to encourage your little one to start potty training let me know how it goes!

I thought I would confess how I prepare my morning coffee on this fine rainy Monday in Dallas. We had a great weekend and Monday's are a lazy day for myself. All I want to do is lay in bed all day and sip my hot coffee. When I wake up the first thing I want is coffee. I have to have coffee. Yeah it helps me wake up and get my day started, but I also just enjoy drinking coffee. I can drink it at any time of the day. That is why I love Thermos products. I don't have to keep heating up my coffee. I can just store it in my Thermos and maintain it hot for 24 hours.☕️

Coffee is healthy for you but when you start adding so much sugar it takes over and just ruins your coffee. A few months ago I completely changed the way I prepare my coffee. I confess that I ditched white sugar and sweet coffee creamers. I opted for something healthier. I discovered coconut sugar. There I said it, coconut sugar. It's sweet, healthy and delicious. How did I not know about coconut sugar? Instead of coffee creamers I use unsweetened coconut milk. Some days I even add a little bit of coconut oil and it really gives my coffee the final delicious touch. That's it! It's simple and healthy!

Dark Matter Coffee has been my favorite. The Thermos Heritage Blend has notes of dark caramel, cocoa nibs and dark chocolate. I like my coffee to have flavor and this coffee delivers that and more. I confessed how I make my coffee healthy and delicious not it's your turn. Share your #CoffeeConfessions with me on Twitter. Thermos will be selecting random winners and giving away coffee!!๐Ÿ˜ฑ

You guys know how obsessed with coffee I am. The instant I found out about the Overnight Coffee Challenge by Thermos I said YES! ☕️ Honestly this is like a dream come true for a coffee lover like myself. Getting hot coffee delivered to my door right as I am waking up is for sure a wonderful feeling.๐Ÿ˜Š Can I get this service everyday?๐Ÿ˜‚ My parents always carried their Thermos everywhere  and now I have my very own to do the same. I remember their coffee was always steaming hot even hours later. My parents carried that thing around for years. I figured if my parent's Thermos back in the day did the job and kept their coffee hot, then I can just imagine how amazing their product must be now. I received the Thermos Vacuum Insulated Stainless King Beverage Bottle and a bag of coffee. This Thermos is suppose to keep liquids cold or hot for 24 hours.

I patiently waited for my coffee to arrive. I unscrewed the lid and my coffee was piping hot. The coffee tasted so delicious! I definitely tasted the notes of dark caramel, cocoa nibs and dark chocolate. These flavors come together to provide light sweetness that can be tasted in the robust dark roast. I enjoyed every sip.

Today is National Thermos Day and Thermos is hosting a giveaway and giving you a chance to give the Overnight Coffee Challenge a try. All details on how to enter are HERE! More than one winner will be selected so enter now and get your own Overnight Coffee Challenge kit.

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Dove, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #pmgdove #DovePartner #EssentialUpgrade
I had been purchasing the same deodorant for the past few months. I came to a realization that the deodorant I was using was no longer living up to it's expectations. Motherhood can get a bit crazy and I am constantly on the go. Meaning I need a strong full protection deodorant by my side. Spring and Summer are hot in Texas and it was time for me to upgrade to a better and stronger deodorant. I've partnered with Dove to tell you all about their Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant. I needed something that would keep me dry and odorless for as long as possible. Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant offers 48- hours of odor and wetness protection which immediately intrigued me to purchase. Aside from full protection Dove Advanced Care offers skin care benefits. It's NutriumMoisture formula leaves my underarms feeling soft and smooth which makes it an essential upgrade for my daily beauty routine.

First thing I do each morning, aside from brushing my teeth and drinking my morning coffee, I apply deodorant. Out of all my beauty routine products, deodorant it the one item that keeps me confident all day. Since I stared using Dove Advanced Care I know my under arms are loving me. I know I will be wearing short sleeves soon. There is something about Dove Advanced Care that makes me feel confident and clean. Especially on those long and hot days. I will be completely honest there are days that I forget to apply deodorant and with any other deodorant I feel self-conscious, which happens to 87% of women. But knowing that Dove Advanced Care has my back for 48-hours has me worry free. I can now continue doing my daily activity plus being super mom to my fun and crazy toddler.

This is definitely my new go-to deodorant. Caring coconut is by far my favorite scent but I am eager to give every single scent a try. Does your deodorant offer what Dove Advanced Care does? Give it a try and give your beauty essentials an upgrade!

One thing that I love to do with my little guy is bake. Helping my mom and grandma in the kitchen when I was little was always so much fun. I want to continue making as many memorable memories as I can with my son in the kitchen. Baking is basically a weekend tradition. So, Dia De los Niรฑos (Kid's Day) is celebrated in our household weekly. We plan out what we are going to make during the week and bake it on the weekend. We took a trip to Walmart to pick up all of the ingredients we needed, including the family size Lucky Charms (Evan's favorite cereal ever). This recipe is so easy and so much fun. Give this sweet and delicious recipe a try and enjoy every bite!

I know how crazy and frustrating being a mom to a newborn can be. Those newborns can really kick your butt! I always hated getting advice from other moms when I was expecting. In my head I had it perfectly planned out, but boy was I WRONG!๐Ÿ˜‚ Every mom has a different experience, but sometimes learning about other mom's experiences can be helpful in the long run. With Mother's Day around the corner I decided to partner up with Dreft and share my personal advice, and their partnership with Sean and Catherine Lowe from The Bachelor. This is my advice for newborn mamas. Share yours down below! Happy Mother's Day!!

1 Accept the help: I was so lucky to have my family by my side to help me with my newborn. Being a mom was new to me and having my parents help me was truly a blessing. I am so thankful that I accepted my parents help. Even though I still looked and felt crazy having my family around made motherhood a little easier. If someone offers their help say yes. A little help goes a long way.

2 Research What Products Are Best For Your Baby: Why did no one tell me I had to wash my newborn's clothes with a gentle laundry detergent? I literally was clueless and would google everything. So why on earth didn't I google this? Evan developed a nasty rash from my honest mistake. I finally realized it was the laundry detergent I was using. I quickly switched over to Dreft. I learned my lesson you guys. I was am now the crazy mom that researches every single product before I try it out on my kid.

Dreft has 3 products: Dreft Stage 1: Newborn; Dreft Stage 2: Active Baby and Dreft Blissfuls. Dreft Stage 2: Active Baby Detergent is specially designed with your developing baby in mind. That's why it helps remove 99% of baby food stains and all of the messes baby finds while crawling in grass and dirt. Let Dreft Active Baby care for the messes, so mom's can spend more time enjoying the precious moments of babyhood.

3 Noise is Okay: I was so paranoid about having the TV being too loud, or people talking too loud and even my phone going off would make me panic when Evan was napping. I learned that being around noise was okay. All that did was make Evan a light sleeper. Luckily, we slowly broke that habit. We now sleep with the radio on and he loves it.

4 Keep Calm: This one is easier said than done. I remember those late nights that Evan would wake up hysterically crying. Edgar and I would take turns trying to soothe him, but we would just end up freaking out and arguing. It got ugly at times and even hurt our relationship. I wish we would have taken a deep breath and just stayed calm. You will find a quicker way to soothe your baby if you just stay calm.

5 Enjoy Every Moment: Enjoy the good, the bad and the ugly because they grow so fast. Personally, I feel like I didn't enjoy newborn Evan as much as I should have. This is so bad but I would always say, "I can't wait until he's older." Every year seeing him grow into such a beautiful human being is definitely a bitter sweet feeling. I wish I would have taken more pictures, more videos and just enjoyed my baby a whole lot more. Live in the moment and enjoy your newborn mamas!
Sean and Catherine Lowe's parenting journey and partnership with Dreft commenced at their Dreft "Loads of Love" baby shower (on April 27th) - where the couple was showered with all the love, support and essentials needed to prepare them for the arrival of their precious new baby. I am giving away a Dreft "Baby Shower" Package to one lucky newborn mama. Parenthood and babyhood is messy. But those messy and imperfect moments are often the most memorable and thanks to Dreft, parents can embrace the mess of #amazinghood.
